Importance of Process over Product

What is the process?
The process of making an artwork is all the thoughts, actions, and feelings along the journey of creating something.

What is the product?
The product is the artwork. It is the art object, the painting, the performance, the story, etc. that is completed at the end.

The importance of process.
At Bream, we focus on the process because we believe this is where creativity, growth and learning blossom. When our process is creative and inspiring the final artwork is more powerful.

Additionally, our facilitators focus on process so that each artist can have their own journey and create artworks that truly represent themselves. We don’t want to tell you what to make. We want to guide you so you can find it on your own.

How to focus on your process.
Before you begin making an artwork, check in with yourself. 
Create a framework to work within (or take a Bream class to provide that framework). 
As you are creating, notice what feelings and questions arise. 
Engage with what you are feeling and thinking about. Bring them into the process and artwork. Consider ways that you can bring the following elements to your work: memory, play, imagination, questions, exploration, collaboration, and new materials.
